What is TROCP?

The Towing & Recovery Operator Certification Program is a national certification program that has been developed by two of the industry’s top certification bodies: WreckMaster and Towing and Recovery Association of America, Inc. (TRAA).

What if I have a TRAA certification?

All TRAA certifications will be imported June 1st. An account will be created for you at that time.. An account has been created for you. You should have received an account activation email. This email will require you to select a password to access your account. If you did not receive an account activation email, please click here.

What if I have a WreckMaster certification?

All WreckMaster certifications have been brought into Towcert.com. An account has been created for you. You should have received an account activation email. This email will require you to select a password to access your account. If you did not receive an account activation email, please click here.

Will I lose any of my certifications?

All certifications obtained through TRAA’s National Driver Certification Program (NDCP) or WreckMaster will be grandfathered into the new system. These will be valid until the certification expires. Recertification will be required in the new TROCP program.

What if I’m certified in the Towing & Recovery Support Certification Program (TRSCP)?

Not to worry, the TRSCP now lives at towcert.com. Anyone already certified at either the TRSCP Entry Level or TRSCP Advanced Level will be able to keep and maintain their certification.

Do I keep my original ID number?

ID numbers that were issued to operators by TRAA or WreckMaster will always stay with the operator.

What is the new TROCP Certification Level structure?

  • TROCP Level 1 = Light Duty
  • TROCP Level 2 = Medium / Heavy Duty
  • TROCP Level 3 = Heavy Rescue Specialist

How do the new level Structures compare to the old?

  • TROCP Level 1 = (WreckMaster 2/3) (TRAA Level 1)
  • TROCP Level 2 = (WreckMaster 4/5) (TRAA Level 2)
  • TROCP Level 3 = (WreckMaster 6/7) (TRAA Level 3)

Do I have an account with Towcert?

All operators that had a certification with TRAA or WreckMaster will be automatically registered with Towcert. This is where operators can find their certification, grade and more. An account activation email has been sent to all operators with an active certification or outstanding exam. If you did not receive an activation email, click here.

Is the TROCP exam Proctored?

All TROCP certification exams are proctored by a third party. To find out more about ProctorU and the proctoring process, click here.

How do I prepare for the certification exams?

Preparation for certification comes in many forms: training, professional experience, and/or written resources. For operators preparing for the TROCP, we recommend attending a training that corresponds with the level of certification you are attempting. Appropriate training programs are available from WreckMaster Inc.. and other affiliate programs. Again, training is recommended but not a requirement for TROCP certifications. There are resource guides available to use as study guides when preparing for both TRSCP and TROCP certification exams.

How many questions are on the certification exams?

Exams average 50 to 60 questions each. Questions are multiple choice.

What knowledge do I need to pass the TROCP exams?

Successful passage of the TROCP Level 1 Certification Exam requires that an operator have requisite knowledge in the following areas.

  • Traffic Incident Management
  • Workplace Safety
  • Light-Duty Towing Vehicle Chassis Specifications and Operation
  • Towing / Transport / Recovery Equipment Structural Ratings
  • Basic Rigging Applications and Ratings

  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Safe Towing Procedures and Capacities

Successful passage of the TROCP Level 2 Certification Exam requires that an operator have requisite knowledge in the following areas.

  • Intermediate Rigging Applications and Ratings

How long do I have to take the exam?

Each test taker will have 60 minutes to complete the exam.

Do I have to pay an additional fee for the proctor?

The proctoring fee is included in the price you paid for the exam. There is no additional cost to the test taker.

What do I need to take the exam?

  • One form of government-issued photo ID (i.e. driver’s license, passport, military ID, student ID, etc.)
  • Any materials authorized for use by your instructor (scratch paper, pencil, etc.)
  • A working webcam and microphone
  • A strong internet connection
  • A private room
  • A hard surface to work on

What if I fail the exam?

Operators that fail the exam can repurchase an additional attempt for a discounted rate. Visit Towcert.com and place an order to the level you wish to retest in. Retest will be proctored just as the first attempt was.

What will I receive once I pass my certification exam?

Upon achieving a passing grade operators will be emailed a certification certificate. The certificate will include the operator’s name, certification level, date of certification, ID number and expiry date.

What is the passing Grade?

Test takers will have to achieve a grade of 75% or higher to pass the TROCP certification exams.

I originally certified with TRAA or WreckMaster and I need to recertify, What do I do?

Simply visit Towcert.com and place an order for a TROCP recertification exam. Follow the chart below to find the level that you need to recertify in.

  • TROCP Level 1 = (WreckMaster 2/3) (TRAA Level 1)
  • TROCP Level 2 = (WreckMaster 4/5) (TRAA Level 2)
  • TROCP Level 3 = (WreckMaster 6/7) (TRAA Level 3)

Can I see what questions I got wrong?

Unfortunately, we can not provide certification exam answers. If you would like to review your exam please contact us at info@towcert.com and we will try to make arrangements.

How many attempts will I have at the Certification exams?

Each test taker will have 3 attempts per certification level.

How do I see my certification in my portal?

Please log into Towcert.com, click on my elearning and completed. Certifications will be displayed there. If you have any questions please contact us info@towcert.com.

Can I submit for TDLR with Towcert.com?

Operators wanting to submit for TDLR must send their drivers license number and date of birth to info@towcert.com ahead of taking their exam.

How do I print my certificate?

Please log into Towcert.com click on My eLearning completed and select print certificate.

How do I get a digital copy or hard copy of my ID card?

Please email an ID order request to info@towcert.com.

Are there prerequisites for TROCP certification?

Yes, TROCP certification has prerequisites. The levels will have to be earned in order starting with the lowest level and working your way up to the highest level.

How do I prepare for the certification exams?

The TROCP recommends attending appropriate training for the level of certification you plan on attempting. It is not a requirement to attempt the exams.
